Le Hamel

Next stop
With Barbara was the Le Hamel Australian Memorial which was at the location of a pivotal attack masterminded by General Monash. It was very tactical and he did things like having planes fly over for several nights before to acclimatize the Germans so that on the morning of the attack at 3am when the planes flew over again it disguised the noise of the tanks. He had also been launching some minor gas attacks during the previous nights to encourage the Germans to sleep in their dug outs. It is a battle still studied by Australian Officers today. It was an excellent site and also had the remains of some original trenches.
