Putting Amy to Work

I was taking the old handles off my kitchen before they came in to rip it out, it was taking ages to unscrew the handles with a screw driver, next thing Amy appears with her drill and has all the handles off in a couple of minutes! I got her to put the old handles on the bathroom cabinets to give them a bit of an update- I gave her the tag of "useful"!

Rain Brings Garden Back to Life

I love these green spiky plants that come up around February each year with their pretty white flowers. This year with all the heat I didn't think they were coming, in fact last week before the rain, I thought they had all died off, there seemed to be the odd little green spike a couple of centimeters above the ground. Last weekend we got about 70 mm of rain and then on Wednesday another 70mm and all of a sudden they had sprung up and started flowering- in just over a week- they just look lovely.

Kitchen Up Date

I now have my appliances in and the tiling done. The  glass splash back has been measured but will take 10 days. I have gone for Treasure Trove- which is a brown shimmery colour- a bit like a milky coffee. I wanted to go a pastel spearmint green to match my honeycomb blinds but when we held up the tiles to the bench it did not look right. Thankfully Amy was home to help me choose! I have decided to go with black and cream as my colours for tea towels, canisters etc. Am pleased with how it is shaping up. The painter has been to have a look and will do the job sometime this week, we still have no lights - just waiting for number 1 child to do that job, but he has it all under control. Slowly packing everything back into the kitchen, seems to take forever to work out where things go and to cull some of the stuff.

Day 2 Bench Top Goes In and Day 3 The Appliances

The next day the bench top got put in and then on Friday the electrician and plumber were back to put in the power points, oven, range hot, gas hotplate and the sink and water- it looks great! By about 3pm Friday they were all gone and it was pretty much done. I just love my corner drawers and love the bench top which is 'Nimbus' Caesearstone and the cupboards color is 'Tokyo Snow'. Saturday morning the plasterer came and by Saturday afternoon I could vacuum out the cupboards and wipe everything down and I could start moving back in. Monday the man from Deco Glaze will come to measure up for the splashback which will then take about two weeks, we need to paint and I have someone coming next week to do a bit of tiling. It has really opened up the room and already we notice the difference with more room in the kitchen nad not getting in each others way.

Day 1 New Kitchen Goes In

By the end of the day they had put all the new cupboards in - they just worked so hard and it was really taking shape. I was really pleased with the design and the colour. It is one thing to see the plans and the sample colours but to see it in the flesh was great and I was very pleased. I love my handles- I had to choose them the day before in about half on hour on the internet at work and was so pleased with my choice!

Goodbye Old Kitchen

Spent last weekend and the beginning of this week packing up my old kitchen and setting up a temporary kitchen in the dining room. I had been advised that they would start my kitchen on Wednesday, got a phone call Tuesday afternoon to confirm that the workers would be there at 7 am and just after 7am they were there ready to go. In a couple of hours they had pulled out the old kitchen, the electrician and plumber had come to do there stuff and before I knew it they were putting in the new kitchen cupboards.

Bright Weekend 2014

                                                                 Falls Creek Forest
                                                            View from Mt Buffalo
                                                         Howitt Park after the ride
Post Ride BBQ and get together
Pre ride warm up to Buckland Valley

It has become an annual pilgrimage heading down to Bright for the Australia Day Long Weekend and this year was just as good as previous years. We used to head down with the kids when they were little but now they enjoy the weekend at home without the parents telling them what to do!

This year I rode up to Falls Creek and for the first time ever Bill decided not to ride- he had done it enough times so he decided to volunteer. He spent the day up on Mt Buffalo washing sunglasses for tired riders who were most appreciative- he also ferried around some vehicles and worked pretty hard.

The weather was pretty good this year and quite mild compared to previous years as it is usually pretty warm. Bright is a lovely spot and it is always a relaxing weekend with lots of good company, laughs and usually too much good food!
