Newgrange Falconry Encounter

On Friday we picked up our hire car and drove 30 minutes north of Dublin where we met Brian of Newgrange Falconry. We then followed him along some country roads and drove up to the top of a ridge in a paddock which gave us lovely views.
He then proceeded to unload various birds from boxes and show them to us and tell us about them. It was an amazing experience and Amy was in bird heaven.

First he got out a pair of Golden Eagles that he had bred-they were just magnificent

He set them up on their perches, they were overlooking  the gully and you could seem them watching everything that was going on.

The local farmer had been having trouble with domestic dogs so had a llama protecting them. He came up to check us out and see what was going on and if we were a threat. He got a bit spooked when the eagles would jump off their perches and flapped their wings, so kept away from us. He checked us out from a few different angles but eventually figured out we were not going to attack his sheep. We did notice him herd the sheep away from us if they got too close.

Pretty impressive golden eagle

Amy was in bird heaven- these owls were so cute

We had tea and brack, it tasted so good!

Then we went walking with the hawk, he would follow us as we walked around and would fly and land on Amy's hand when food was placed there.

Amy and the falcon that we also got to watch fly

Amy was in bird heaven giving rubs to this little fellow
