Vanuatu Cultural Centre

Visited the Vanuatu Cultural Centre today and learnt a lot about the local culture and history. We just loved the sand drawings that some of the different islands use, we learnt about one of the head chiefs who when he died was buried with all of his 50 wives and some of the local chiefs as well. They were buried alive, drank kava before they were buried, his favorite wife did not agree to it so was tied up and buried alive! The area is now listed as a World Heritage Area. We had a lovely guide and he really passed on a lot of information, he told us how his grandfather had eaten 18 people and then was converted by the missionaries and stopped his canibalism!
