Unknown Soldier

We had the chance to meet up with Richard Moss he was the local historian at Sailly-Le-Sec. Bill had been in email correspondence with him after our last visit, he was interested in photos that Bill's grandfather had taken. He was a real character, turns out he had worked for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for 43 years and been all over the world working at different cemeteries. It turns out he was the person the CEGC asked to locate an unknown Australian soldier and it was him that organised the removal and trader of the body to Villers Bretonneux from the Adelaide cemetery.

We also had the chance to call into the German cemetery at Fricourt. They are quite different very shady and just marked by a simple cross with 4 soldiers often buried in the one grave.
