French Toast Roll Ups

Sunday morning Charlie and Mia helped make French Toast Roll Ups for breakfast- they were pretty yummy, filled with honey and rolled in cinnamon sugar! We had a lovely weekend with Charlie and Mia.

We had a campfire and toasted marshmallows- Charlie is a real little fire bug!

Mini Marshalls

 

 

I had bike race marshalling duties on Saturday so I took some mini marshals along with me! It was a lovely sunny afternoon, a little cool but the kids helped me on the finishing chute, Mia was serenading the riders on her ukulele as they came through and Charlie helped turn the riders at the turn. Kept them amused for a couple of hours!

 

Gazebo Clean Up

 

Then the kids decided it was time to help me clean out the gazebo- Charlie had great fun with the leaf blower and then when they had a pair of secaturs each they had Bill worried they were going to cut down all his trees!

 

Ukulele Lesson

 

Mia had just gotten a ukulele so we looked up the Internet and learnt how to tune and hold the ukulele, strum the ukulele and play c chord! I didn't have a ukulele so I used my tennis racket to figure out how to hold it and show Mia!

Last Week Dog Sitting This Week Kid Sitting

 

This weekend we are minding Mia and Charlie and have been having a great time! First of they decided to do a work out in the rumpus room, then we took Benji and Jack for a walk. After the fog lifted it was a beautiful morning. We found a playground to play on and the swans came up to check us out and see if we had any bread!

Chester and Rocket

Last weekend we were dog sitting- we had Chester and Rocket come to stay. They are labradoodles and after an initial day settling in they were great, they made themselves completely at home as you can see! We have had Chester before, but Rocket is a new addition to their family and is about 10 months old- they were both lovely dogs and fitted in well- though it was a bit full on with 4 dogs in the house!

Racing at Orroral

 

Racing was out at Orraral Valley. We started at the camp ground, road to the tracking station, back past the camp ground out to Bobayan Rd, back to the tracking station then to the camp ground. It is one of the shorter courses, but boy is it a tough course. I rode it a couple of years ago and said never again, but my memory must have faded, and as soon as I started I remember why I did not want to ride it again. It has so many ups and downs and while not big long hills they are very hard. Someone had a camera, so there is a photo of Bill, then the only 3 people silly enough to ride the race in F grade! It really is a lovely setting out there but for picnicking rather than riding I must remind myself next time! I eventually won- one rider punctured and I carried a few less kilos than the other rider so that gave me the advantage up the hills!

Mother's Day Macaroons and Chocolates

Amy went up to Sydney last weekend and came home with some yummy Mother's Day presents for me- my favourite peppermint truffle bars from Haigh's and some macaroons in a gorgeous box from Laduree- I was spoilt!

Danger in the Chook Yard

I went outside on Saturday morning to  let the chooks out, while I was out there decided to collect the eggs. The cold weather has struck, so the chooks are not laying as much so only found one egg, thought I better check out some of the usual haunts as everynow and then they decided to find a new laying spot. Found some in one spot, and then I stepped off the path and ventured into the dirt area- however I was only in my pink plastic crocks- very stylish I know, but also very stupid as I then stepped on a piece of wood with a rusty nail in it! It probably pierced my foot about 1cm and there was a small puncture wound there and a bit of blood. I decided I needed to be brave, as probably the last tetanus shot I had was before Lachlan was born-so just slightly over due for a tetanus shot! So I took myself off the Walk In Clinic at Canberra Hospital and had a tetanus shot and my wound cleaned. It was all a bit weird as the nurse pulled out of the wound this little round piece of something that looked a bit like a fish scale which made her think there was a foriegn body in there, so that required a blunt needle full of water in the wound to wash it out- just typing this makes me go all light headed again-but I was very brave. It turned out to be a top layer of skin that got punched in, just like with a hole punch- as the nail it turned out when I examined it at home, was rusty and blunt and the top point had worn off! So quite a start to Saturday morning. Despite the chooks causing me so much trauma, I got them some chook mash on the way home to boost their protein and hopefully their egg laying over the cold months.

I also decided that after such a traumatic start to the day I better not go bike racing- I was just waiting for an excuse to get out of the race today it was a race up the hill to Honeysuckle Creek which is one very steep hill- I needed to stay home and recover. Mind you my arm and foot are a bit sore today!

Opera By Candlelight

On Friday night Bill and I went to Opera by Candlelight at the Albert Hall with some work colleagues and had a wonderful night. The Albert Hall was all set up with tables and chairs with candelabra and white tablecloths and we just had to bring the food. It was only my second opera, and the last one was also sung in English and it was just great- lots of fun and great singing and a great story. We had a lovely time eating between the acts and then watching the Opera and enjoying the lovely atmosphere of the Albert Hall.
