Early start this morning, up at 5am to head to SLC airport for our flight to Philadelphia with a two hour layover in Chicago. Every time you go to an airport you are reminded of how many people live in the United States!
Just to prove I had been in Chicago Airport!
This was City Hall, I would have loved to have done a tour but it is not open on Sundays.
We found a Trader Joe's and picked up some snacks and salad for dinner, and another bag to add to our collection.
Next morning we headed out to see what Philly had to offer. I enjoyed our day here, it was a walkable city, lots to see, magnificent buildings and lots of history.
City Hall in daylight.
Some fancy doors
We headed to Reading Terminal Market. I love just wandering through the aisles and checking out the various stalls
Philly streets had lots of interesting statues and art works
The Philadelphia Temple is right in the centre of the city, so we walked there to see it.
There was a church right across the road, Sacrament meeting was starting in 10 minutes at 10:30am so we went to church.
The Rocky Steps. Some Americans were horrified to hear that neither Bindi or I had watched the Rocky Movies
People were running up the steps like Rocky
Nice view back down the Boulevard
It really was an impressive building. It had started to rain, so we spent a couple of hours inside to keep dry, and check out the collection- well worth it.
It was a bit of a walk back to our hotel and across to the Historic Area of town, so we managed to catch the Plash Bus. It was only $5, could have used it all day but it did the trick for us. Gave us a chance to check out the historic area before we got off at the Independence Visitors Centre
Checked out the Liberty Bell
Benjamin Franklin
We went through the Betsy Ross House, she was the woman that made the first American flag. She was a very accomplished woman. Interesting place.
We then headed to Independence Hall where we were booked in for our tour
Our guide was great, very engaging and we had a fun and interesting tour with him.
Streets of Philly
We had been recommended Ishkabibbles in South Street as a place to get a good Philly Cheese Steak by a fellow passenger, so we took his advice and headed there
We wandered down South Street- loved the Pet Shop and Bakery
There as a lot of mosaic work as well on the buildings
