Working Hard in the Garden

Have been spending time out in the garden, my plan once the bathroom renovation was finished we could order in a load of mulch. We had just had a good rain of about 20mm and the forecast was fairly cool for  the rest of the week with rain forecast at the end of the week, so figured it was a good time to make it happen. We had 5 cubic metres of mulch delivered Friday at 8am, after walking the dogs and having breakfast, Bill and I got to work and we spread the mulch. It took all day with a few short breaks and just as we were finishing sweeping up the rain started to fall and overnight we had 17 mm of rain which really settled in the mulch. It was followed the next week with over 100mm falling, so really pleased we got it done when we did.

Here is the big pile of mulch ready to be moved.

I brought a wheelbarrow for Lachlan but had to test it out to make sure it worked. Much quicker having two wheelbarrows. Now I know where I can go to borrow one!

Just swept the path and then the rain started.

Finally may have mastered growing blueberries. I have tried several times. Growing them in pots seems to be the best way here in Canberra.

Amy bought me these lovely daisies for my birthday

Bill and I also got a load of gravel to put between the veggie beds. Was very pleased with the outcome. I have zucchini, beans, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and leeks growing this year. Already picking zucchini.

Lucy finally mastered the dog door- or got brave enough to push it open, I think she knew what to do was just scared of the swinging door.

Little Hugo chilling out on his back

My planter box I made from fence palings at my woodwork classes- finally finished!
