Walking Tour of Paris and Getting Lost in Paris

Lots of walking in Paris today- but I love walking so that suits me.
I headed out for an early morning walk- need to do extra walking to wear of all the pastries! I just walked around the area we are staying in and discovered a Roman Amphitheater in a park nearby! Picked up some breakfast on the way home.

Then Bill and I headed out and joined a Discover Paris Walking Tour- it was great and found out lots of information about Paris and walked in areas I hadn't been before.

After leaving our guide I decided I could find my way home without a map- we got a bit lost but had fun discovering some new areas. We stopped for lunch and managed to ignore our instincts which had been wrong and trusted google maps and found our way back home.

After a break we headed out again and visited the Grand Mosque of Paris, I managed to find the Roman Ampitheatre again to show Bill, then we walked down to the Latin Quarter for dinner before heading back to our apartment.

Paris by Night

We had brought tickets to a concert at the La Madeline Church- it was a Requiem by Mozart- a bit of culture for me! It was a nice night, the rain had cleared up so we decided to walk, it was about a 50 minute walk. It was lovely walking along the Seine and seeing everything all lit up. The concert was very nice. It went from 8:30pm till about 10pm, we successfully navigated the metro and were back in our little apartment by 10:30pm.

Paris

We are now in Paris- arrived Monday night, it was bitterly cold, Tuesday morning it was wet and windy but eventually dried up and by the evening we had clear skies. I went for an early morning walk and enjoyed just getting my bearings and enjoying this beautiful city.

Then after our breakfast in our little unit we headed out to Napoleon's Tomb and the Army Museum

We checked out their amazing collection of medieval amour

Then we checked out the gardens at Musee de Rodin

Then did some walking!

Had to get a shot of us with the Eiffel Tower in the background

Eagles Flying and Walking Around Benbulben

It was a cold and frosty start to the day but just like Canberra it meant a lovely clear sunny day, if not a little chilly. Today we headed down to Eagles Flying- a family run sanctuary for birds of prey. On the way down we called in at Drumcliff where Willam Yeats was buried.

Some of the birds of prey we saw

Ashling the owl

One of the eagles coming into land on my sister in law's arm- I was most impressed that Bindi didn't freak out- she was very brave!

A very cute Barn Owl

An eagle- I think this one was a Yellow Eagle

Bill and I did a walk along the side of Benbulben- very spectacular

Sligo with Bindi and Simon

We are staying at the Atlantic Way B&B with Simon, Bindi, Mia and Charlie. They have come across from Dublin to meet us for the weekend. We went out exploring the area today. It rained most of the night, but it cleared up by the time we were ready to head out- which meant it would rain for 5 minutes, blue sky the next then back to rain showers 5 minutes later. It was about 3 degrees when we started out and we hit a top temperature of 6 degrees, There was a heavy dusting of snow on the mountains around us so quiet stunning.

This was the morning view of Benbulben Mountain. There was snow on the mountain!

Glencar Waterfall- a very pretty spot and a lovely drive in. There was also a beautiful lake.

This was another close up view of Benbulben Mountain- we did this lovely drive that took us right up close to the steep sides, very spectacular but rather chilly!

Another place we visited was Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery, which had a series of ancient burial tombs- very fascinating.

Then Simon, Bill and I walked  up Knocknarea Mountain, which had a cairn for Queen Maeve. Stunning views up the top and some interesting history.

Just one of the many sheep we have seen while in Ireland. The black faces and legs really stand out.

Slieve Leauge

After a stormy night, we set off under dark cloudy skies heading south along the Wild Atlantic Way. The weather ended up not being too bad. We would get a shower for 5 minutes then next thing would see a bit of blue sky, then it would rain again but never for  long. We drove through lovely countryside and up some rather scary winding roads at time but this then made for some stunning scenery. Out main objective today was to visit the Slieve Leauge Cliffs which were just stunning. The weather cleared for us, we did go through one hail shower which lasted about 30 seconds but then were fine. The wind did get pretty strong up on top of the cliffs and decided we had gone far enough when we met some walkers coming down who said they had to stop and lie down because the winds were too strong!

Lovely scenery where ever you go

Lots of sheep everywhere- I love their black faces and black legs!

The Atlantic Ocean

It was a narrow, winding road to get to the top of this valley!

The cliffs of Slieve League- just stunning
