January to March Catch Up

We have been busy with all the work with the granny flat I hadn't been keeping up with my blog, I thought I was only a month or two behind then when I checked I hadn't done anything all year so here are some catch up photos but not in any particular order.

At one stage when Lachlan was pulling the cable through the conduit from the main switch board to the granny flat the rope pulling the cable through broke right as it was coming around the final curve. This meant the tradie assistants- Bill and I had to dig down the trench to find the conduit so Lachlan could access the conduit and solve the problem. That was hard work digging trenches!

Later on in the process more trench digging up was required as when the trenches were filled in the guy doing it didn't lay down the warning tape about cables below. While the plumber and the builder were not too worried about it, Lachlan wanted the job done properly. He was prepared to dig up the trench and lay the tape himself, so Bill and I were back on the shovel and pick again and did it for him- it was hard work but we got it done.

One of the casualties of the build was our letterbox, someone, and we don't know who had backed into it and cracked some of the motar.

We never got to bottom of it, however to make matters worse Bill added more damage to the letterbox, and Amy and I were not impressed as it was with our car. While all the building was going on we move the cars out of the drive most days and then back in at night. The one night I didn't do it because I was tired and it was late, Bill offered to do it, I should have known better but he managed to put what he said was a "little scratch" on the passenger side of the car. The car was parked perpendicular to the letterbox,  so I don't quite know how he managed it. The "little scratch" led to one door being replaced, one lower panel replaced, one door requiring panel beating and the whole side being repainted. Thank goodness for car insurance and needless to say we don't want Bill driving our car!

In the January school holidays I had Charlie over a couple of times to do some work around the house for us. He helped me stain the fence, we got 3/4 way through the first coat when we had to abandon due to rain and lots of it!

Charlie is very good at multitasking, he was able to watch things on his  phone with one hand and paint with the other! It is only just this last week that I have finally finished the job - 2 coats with the help of the sister missionaries on the last few Thursday afternoons.

Back in January Amy, Kelly, Mia, Francine, Bindi and I went out for dinner at Kingston at Morks. We had orginally booked in in late November but we got bumped because of overbooking- as compensation we got a $400 voucher. We finally got ot use it and the six of us had a lovely night out.

The swans on the little Gordon Pond and their babies are really growing up, we walk past each week morning on our walk with the dogs and feed them cornflakes.

I plant sunflowers each year and love watching the different birds come and feed on them.

I recently started going to the "Veteran's Shed" in Tuggeranong. It is like a men's shed but women are welcome as well. I have made some bird stands for the macaws and they have proven popular with the birds. I want to lean how to use power tools and be a bit more handy around the house.

Budgie and Hawk on their new stands below and above they are keeping a close eye on Beau.

Granny Flat Almost There

I knew I hadn't updated my blog in a while but when I checked I hadn't done anything at all this year! So time to update. There was a break over December for 3 to 4 weeks and then work began again. The granny flat was at lock up stage before Christmas so work was certainly progressing. It has been a bit all consuming, choosing tiles, paints, layouts of kitchens, wardrobes etc but it has all come together and we are very pleased with the results and our builder has been great to work with.

Painters are ready to go- we have Hot Tamarillo on the vertical cladding and Woodland Grey on the horizontal. Dougie was our painter and he did the the painting on our extension nearly 12 years ago, lovely bloke and a real character.

Waterproofing for the bathroom. This was one of the few things that went wrong, it had to be redone-but the builder was on top of it, the whole floor was waterproofed. The line for the shower also had to be moved and that wasn't done correctly and didn't find out till the tiles were in and the guy came to measure for the shower screen but again the builder was able to come up with a solution that didn't involve a complete retile.

Next came the tiler, it was all starting to happen and getting an idea of what it was going to look like. Amy chose some "bling" tiles for the shower recess- it had rose gold in it which she loves.

The kitchen was going to hold things up as it was going to be delayed however they had a cancellation which meant our kitchen could go in.

Really pleased with the look of the kitchen and our splashback tiles

Painting is continuing on and then the Alfreso and Ramp Area went in. This outside area will be meshed in an will provide an outdoor area for the birds.

Painting is nearly done

Wardrobe inserts are in- we tossed up about getting Bunnings or Ikea inserts but ended up going for the made to measure option as it made better use of the space and once it went in there were no regrets, only that my wardrobe is not as good as this one,

Bathroom vanity and mirror goes in

Amy wanted a feature wall that had glitter paint on it, should not have been suprised!

Starting to look like a real bathroom now!

We needed to make sure the concrete slab was nice and smooth before the guys came in to lay the vinyl planks. It wasn't too bad a job and almost medative scrapping away. Couldn't find Amy one morning and she was out in the granny flat scrapping away.

Flooring in and pleased with the look.

Paving under the alfresco is in and we are enjoying sitting outside. There is a lot of gardening ahead to be done.

The electrician (Lachlan ) has been around and now all the lights are in and the power is on.

The view from the sliding door in the main house

Found a solid concrete table on Gumtree which should be pretty parrot proof we hope

This alfresco area is going to be great.

We had the inspection on Friday by the certifiers to see if everything was in order. We passed that, now there is some paperwork to be done by the builder submitting various certificates and then we will get our certificate of occupancy. We still need to mesh in the outdoor areas and the paver is coming back to do some paths and then some paving out the back of the granny flat and then I can get to work on the garden.
