Merimbula with the Mam Fam

Bindi and the kids were hoping to head to Melbourne in the school holidays but with the lockdown that was off the cards so they came down to Merimbula with Amy and I on the last weekend of the holidays. We stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment that had nice views over the lake. We had a lovely relaxing time. We drove down Friday morning, had hoped to visit the Bega Cheese Factory but because of COVID it was closed, so headed on to Merimbula and after settling in to our apartment went for a walk along the boardwalk around the lake.

This tree in the mangroves looked pretty spectacular

I enjoyed early morning walks around the lake

On the Saturday we headed out to some wetlands near Pambula and then headed up into the hills to the Goodenia Rainforest Walk. It seemed a lot longer than 1.2km down into some lovely rainforest then back up the hill. It was a lovely spot and lots of lovely sounds including birds and the trickling of water flowing through the forest.

We enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch in the sun once we got back up to the car park.

On Sunday morning we headed out to the beach and had a walk along the beach before heading back to Canberra. Lovely weather and lovely company.

Birds, Birds and More Birds

Some photos of the birds and what we they have been up to recently!
Here they are inside a big box, they had fun chewing the cardboard and we had fun watching them try to get out!

Bill often fall asleep on Amy's bed with the birds on him- not very good for his skin but you can't tell him.

Beau needs his hoodie when he goes out in winter but he doesn't like it very much, but he does look cute.

Here he is ready for his walk. He loves going outside and has escaped a few times and sits out on top of the bird avairy, he makes a beeline for the sliding door when we open it so need to be very careful that we shut it and keep an eye on him when we are heading out the door.

Amy has a game on her phone- Bird B and B which has an ecelctus parrot in it a Beau look a like, Amy was trying to get a photo of Beau with the phone eclectus.

Day out to Yass with Kelly and Amy

On the Queen's Birthday Monday holiday, Amy and I picked up cousin Kelly and we headed out to Yass. We thought more shops would be open but that wasn't the case, however there were enough open to keep us happy. The girls discovered Merv's Treasures and it was like hearding cats to get them out of there lots of knick knacks and retro stuff- they are plotting to return without me to supervise them.
We headed back via Murrumbatmen and went to Robyn Rowe's Chocolates. We have seen the sign for years on the Barton Highway and have always wanted to check it out so finally managed to get there. It is in a delightful setting and we sat outside in the sun and enjoyed a hot chocolate and shared some chocolate desserts after purchasing some of the chocolates as well.

We then headed down the road to Poacher's Pantry and decided we must go there for lunch one day. We had a lovely day out and enjoyed discovering places in our own back yard!

Walks and More Walks

Over the last few months we have been doing a lot more walking, part of that has been due to COVID 19 restrictions, it has been noticeable that others are doing the same. Have been able to get to a few walks that I have been meaning to do for ages.

Bill and I did a walk along the banks of the Molonglo River in Queanbeyan, it was an interesting walk, a bit industrial in places and some interesting history of the local area.

On one of our public holiday Monday's Bill and I walked up to Rob Roy trig station with the Stuart Family, it was rather windy and chilly at the top. Up till the beginning of May I hadn't done this walk once, having lived in Canberra for 24 years, now in the last 3 months I have done it 3 times. It is a great walk and I love the views from up here and the scenery is just lovely.

Have been doing regular walks around Lake Tuggeranong with my friends Deb and Kerrie on a Tuesday morning.

We have been keeping an eye on this swan family enjoying the sun.

Recently I did the One Tree Hill Walk out at Hall with Bill and a few friends, another of these walks I have been wanting to do for ages. It was a lovely walk and took us up to the ACT /NSW northern border. We had a lovely morning to do the walk and great views of Canberra.

Fairy Gardens

Amy and I made up a fairy garden and set it up secretly at a friends place recently and every now and then we make secret fairy drops. I am not sure who is having the most fun- Amy and I reliving fairy memories when Amy was little, or the kids receiving the fairy drops. We have also spruced up our own fairy garden in our front yard.

Our fairy garden- had fun repainting my toadstools

The fairy garden we made at home to deliver

Fairy garden in place ready to be discovered

Every now and then the fairies drop off a suprise. We often get a video of the kids discovering the latest delivery which brings us great delight!
