Merimbula

Bill and I went down to Merimbula on the weekend. I wanted to go down to Merimbula Branch and meet the Relief Society President and the sisters in the branch there and get a feel for how things were. Bill and I left about 12 noon and arrived at Merimbula around 3:30pm, we had a good trip down. We checked into our hotel and Bill had a snooze while I walked into town and found the visitor's centre and checked out some walks we could do.

We found a lovely walk from Short Point to Tura Beach, we walked up first on the Mundooi Track which took you through the bush then we came back along the beach it was about 4km all up and a lovely walk.

Then we explored the headland back at Short Point, we walked along the rocks- good training for uneven surfaces for our upcoming walk in NZ  I think. Lots of interesting coloured rocks and patterns.

Sunday morning after heading for walk along the lake edge on a boardwalk, I went to church which was just across the road from the hotel. It was a small branch but they were very friendly and welcoming. After church Bill and I headed back to Canberra, back up through Candelo where we stopped and had a late lunch before arriving back in Canberra around 4:30pm, a pretty drive back through the hills and valleys and up Brown Mountain, it was a nice little break away.

Booroomba Rocks

We have lived in Canberra for 23 years this month, and have not been to Booroomba Rocks before. It is about a 30 minute drive from our place so I decided it was about time we visited the Rocks and a good place for our training walk for NZ. it was a lovely day for walking and the bush is at is best in early spring.

It was a fairly steep walk up to the rocks, took about 30 minutes, but it was a magnificent view back across Canberra, you can't really make it out in this photo but we could pick out lots of familiar features.

Here is Bill pretending he has just climbed up the cliff!

After we got back from the Rocks, we headed down the Australian Alpine Walk, we walked down for an hour stopped and had some lunch then walked back up. It was lovely heading through the bush and this was a lovely walk, a fair bit was downhill so had some climbing to do on the way back.

Big knobbly thingamjig on this gum tree.
We walked down to Bushfold Flats where we ate our lunch before heading back up the hill. We were down in a valley, we could see Mt Tennant in front of us and the Booroomba Rocks were we had been earlier in the day.

Floriade

Amy and I went to Floriade the other week and enjoyed a wander around through the lovely flowers, they always do a great job.

I loved these pears, they were made out of wood, would love something like this for my backyard, maybe not quite this size though!
