Afternoon Tea at Federation Square

Amy and I headed out to Federation Square to have afternoon tea, had a very pleasant afternoon, had some citrus tart with lavendar infused cream, so pistachio and cranberry bread and I had a pot of Turkish Apple Tea, I think we will need to return!

New Career as a Model!

Last Friday I was in a photo shoot out at Murray's corner- I had to wear three different outfits, with three different hairstyles and three lots of makeup- very much out of my normal comfort zone. One of the girls from church was doing a project and needed models of different ages, shapes and sizes, so being over 50 I certainly ticked a few categories! It was a fun day and something quite different. Have not seen any of the finished photos yet, this is just a taste of the goings on of the day!

Farewell to Dog World

Amy finished up at Dog World on Friday after 6 months of full time work. She is having a break of about two weeks and is expecting to start her apprenticeship at the end of November.

Her boss gave her a large box of chocolates and an owl- he saw it and just liked it, so she brought it for Amy. He also gave her a card which said- Rest, Relax and Recover- and in the inside he had written that when she had recovered from her madness (ie- doing her electrical apprenticeship), she was always welcome to come back to Dog World. He has been a really good boss!

Melbourne Cup at Work

As part of our Melbourne Cup lunch at work on Tuesday we had snail racing- quite a feat! First they needed to be painted, then they kept escaping, and then they were raced- put in a cirlce and it was first snail across the outer circle was the winner. My snail never left the circle! We had a fun afternoon and a lovely meal- we all had to wear a fascinator, hat or tie- lots of laughs!

Eton's Mess

I tried a new desert this week- my version of Eton's Mess- crushed up meringues, raspberries, strawberries and cream, with some Sarah Lee chocolate icecream as our dinner guest brought some along- nice and easy and definetly one to have again!

Birthday High Tea

Amy took me out for High Tea for my birthday on Saturday with my sister in law- Bindi and cycling friend Mary. We had a lovely time out at the Gum Nut Cafe at Hall- a lovely rural settlement on the outskirts of Canberra. On the way back home we called in to Bonner and got to see Simon and Bindi's little house which hopefully will be ready for them to move in by the end of the year!

The Veggie Patch

I have been a bit slow getting the veggie patch in this year. As soon as we got back from our overseas trip I put some seeds into the trays, but they have taken a while to germinate and grow and are nearly ready to plant out. We grew a lovely crop of field peas this year- you grow them over winter and then dig them in and they put lots of nitrogen back in the soil. Last week I mowed them down and then dug them in, this weekend I planted some peas and beans. Hopefully next week the seedlings will be ready to plant out. It was good to finally get some of these jobs done!

My New Computer

I have a new computer and a nice clean desk. The clean desk will not last for long, but the computer should. Lachlan order the parts online and then put it all together when it arrived, Bill loaded on the software and transfered my stuff across, so now I have a faster computer with much more storage capacity! I am very happy- it is useful having these computer experts in the house!

Mum the Hairdresser

I have been cutting Bill and Lachlan's hair for years, Amy asked me this week if I could cut her hair! So after some sessions on YouTube I managed to give her hair a bit of a trim and it turned out okay. A hairdresser would probably be horrified but Amy was happy with the result and also the fact that she didn't have to pay out the money for a hair cut. Then she decides she wants to dye her hair but wants me to do it! We first tried a can of mousse but that didn't do much good, so Saturday afternoon we used a packet of permanent dye- with mixed results, she wanted a coppery red, it sort of turned out, but I have decided it is too much like hard work and I did not do a very good job. I will stick to hair cutting and she can pay to have it coloured elsewhere!

Movember

It is Movember- grow a moustache to raise money for men's health. Lachlan's work is participating, I came home the other night and Lachlan had shaved off his beard which he has had since about September. I was excited, but then he said everyone at work was doing Movember, if they did, they are getting a paid day off work. With Movember, you have to start the beginning of the month with no facial hair. He is going to grow back his beard  so my excitement didn't last very long. If he is co operative with the camera I will post some more photos as the month progresses!
