Holidays about to End

It has been the last week of school holidays, and while parents of younger children have been counting down the days, I am not looking forward to getting back into the school routine. This year I will have a uni student and a college student. Amy is of to Year 11 at Tuggeranong College and Lachlan has accepted a place at ANU - Australian National University in Canberra to do a double degree in Arts and Science. Yes - you read that right - the child who was always going to do Software Engineering changed his mind at the last minute and is now doing a double degree in Science and Arts - parents are always the last to know!

Anyway, I have been enjoying this non school routine period and have managed to accomplish a few tasks like getting the cars back in the garage and getting a bit more gardening done. In the last few days I have moved some pot plants and planted some kangaroo paws, dropped in a few rocks at strategic places to prevent plant damage from dogs racing through and am rather pleased with my efforts!

New Bike Goes on a Holiday!

My new bike went on a holiday to Bright on the weekend. It was escorted by myself, Bill and his touring bike. It behaved very well and had a good time riding 7kms up Tawonga Gap, down to Mt Beauty, then up 30km to Falls Creek, then all the way back down again, back up Tawonga Gap and into Bright. It took the bike around 6 hours - it didn't miss a beat and performed beautifully! The driver of the bike was a quite weary by the end of the day though!

We also took the camera down, but it was not as well behaved as the bike! Seeing as though Bill was accompanying me and I could use him as a pack horse - I decided to take some photos along the way for my blog. When I went to take the first photo I got a message from my camera to say it's batteries were flat - I was not impressed- the camera still went on the journey but was no help at all - so that is why there are no photo's with this weeks blogs.

Bill and I went down with no kids and had a great time - did not miss them at all! They probably did not miss us. We picked blueberries, went out to dinner with friends, had a couple of lovely bbq's with friends and had a lovely relaxing weekend, well almost - apart from the 6 hours riding up Fall's Creek!

Weekend in Wagga Wagga

My New Bike!

I picked up my new bike on Thursday - all very exciting- it is a Giant- TCR Advanced - it has a 12/27 cassette, which means it has an easy gear to help ride up hills, apart from that it is black and grey and white, has 2 wheels and goes good!!!

It is lovely to ride and I am very happy! It was my 50th birthday present! I am also wearing my new cycling top that I got from Bindi, my sister in law. Every time I wear it someone comments on what a nice top it is, I have to tell them my bargain hunter sister in law got it for 2 Euro in the Hoffer (Aldi) bargain bin in Austria. It is definitely my favourite top and goes well with my new bike that has red pedals!

Amy and Sue Play Tourist Guide in Melbourne City

While in Melbourne, Amy, Andrea and I caught the train into Melbourne, stayed the night in the Victoria Hotel just behind the town hall and took Andrea on a 24 hour tour of Melbourne. We had a great time- we went for a cruise on the Yarra, went shopping, visited Haighs Chocolate Shop - but I was mean would only let Amy buy one thing! We went to the Melbourne Aquarium, caught a tram, had dinner on Lygon Street, had gelato on Lygon Street, shopped at Victoria Market, watched World Championship Wrestling on our big screen TV in the hotel and couldn't believe we were watching it - it is so weird, then caught the train home from Flinders Street the next day!

Sandcastles in Melbourne

Between Christmas and New Years we had a quick trip down to Melbourne to catch up with family. Short time but managed to do lots. One thing we did was to drive down to Frankston on the beach and we saw a sand sculpture exhibition. It was pretty amazing what we they could do with sand. It was a hot day - 38 degrees when we left mum's place at Berwick, but it was 32 degrees by the beach and then back up to 38 degrees back at Berwick! We took Amy's friend Andrea to Melbourne with us as she had never been to Melbourne!
